James E. Copeland, Jr., M.D.

James E. Copeland, Jr., M.D., joined the staff of New Vision Eye Center in August of 2009. Dr. Copeland is a general ophthalmologist with over thirty years of experience.

 

Dr. Copeland graduated from Gettysburg College in Pennsylvania in 1961. He went on to medical school at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, graduating in 1965. After completing an internship at Abington Memorial Hospital in Abington, PA, he went to the Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia for his residency training. He started his ophthalmology practice in Vero Beach in 1969.

 

Dr. Copeland is a past president of the Indian River County Medical Society. He is currently a member of the Philadelphia College of Physicians and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons. Further, Dr. Copeland is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the Florida Society of Ophthalmology. He is Board Certified by the American Academy of Ophthalmology. In addition to Florida, he is licensed to practice in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

 

He was the team ophthalmologist for the Los Angeles Dodgers Baseball Club when they held their spring training in Vero Beach and for their affiliated minor league team, the Vero Beach Dodgers, during their regular baseball season.

 

Dr. Copeland is a member of numerous organizations, including the Marine Corps League, where he was past Commandant, the Navy League of the United States, the Mason’s, and the Shriner's.

Stephen M. Tate, M.D., joined the staff of New Vision Eye Center in October of 2009. Dr. Tate provides premium cataract surgery including multifocal intraocular lens surgery, glaucoma treatment, retinal management, and general ophthalmic care.

Dr. Tate graduated from West Virginia University School of Medicine in 2003, receiving honors in nearly every one of his clinical clerkships. After completing an internship at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, OH, where he received the prestigious Power of One Award for Patient Satisfaction, he returned to West Virginia University Eye Institute to complete his training in ophthalmology, where he excelled in intraocular surgery.

Formerly with Galloway Eye Center in South Carolina, Dr. Tate has close family ties to the established Vero Beach medical community.

Dr. Tate is Board Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, a member of the Indian River County Medical Society, and the Florida Medical Association.

Dr. Tate and his wife Cori have two daughters and reside in Vero Beach.
